Blue Book Club Kits are available at your library!

What's in a Book Club Kit?  10 copies of Blue, plus author information and discussion questions, all in a handy tote bag.  The Kit checks out as a whole on one library card, and everything is returned in the bag at the same time.  The Kit checks out for 6 weeks and can be reserved up to 6 weeks in advance by calling Sara Thynne, reference librarian, at May Memorial Library, 229-3588.

Blue Discussion Questions

Recommended discussion questions would be:

 To explore the five major topics in Blue:  Polio, World War II, Racial Segregation, Role Changes, Hard times and Community.

 1)      The polio epidemic brought out both the worst and the best in people.  How were families and communities changed by the disease?

 2)      The war required exceptional sacrifices from everyone.  How did people at home contribute to the war effort?

 3)      Ann Fay had to grow up fast as she adapted to the new roles forced upon her by the war and the epidemic.  What was the hardest role that that she had to accept?

 4)      How did Ann Fay and Imogene manage to “cross the river” of racial segregation?

 5)      Hard times make it necessary for people to rely on each other.  What were some of the ways that people found to help each other?

 6)    If you were to were to write a sub-title for the book, what would it be?
