ALAMANCE READS 2011
MAKE A "FIDGET-APRON"

EVENT: MAKE A FIDGET APRON - GRAHAM LIBRARY
APRONS TO BE DONATED TO LOCAL PATIENTS
MONDAY, 01/24/2011 5:00 PM TO 7:00 PM

Monday night, January 24, 2011, 28 women gathered at the Graham Public Library to make fidget aprons for local Alzheimer's patients. It was an amazing display of volunterism, enthusiasm, teamwork, and caring. By the time the evening was over, there was a stack of over 20 aprons ready to be distributed..aprons with every kind of decoration you could imagine. The group from Twin Lakes Memory Center was so excited to show their creations and take them home to their patients. The remaining aprons are to be donated to Alamance Eldercare.

Fidget Aprons provide a stimulating visual and tactile activity to keep agitated hands busy. As Alzheimer's progresses, some seniors pick at their clothing or even begin to undress. This can sometimes happen at inappropriate times. The activities on these aprons are ideal for repetitive actions, like zipping, tying, or pulling a piece of Velcro. Fabrics of varying textures offer variety of tactile sensations too.
